After “sneaking” into the town (sneaking by way of killing everyone), the band of adventures managed to enter the mine. Post collapsed the tunnel behind them, sealing them in. In response to the collapse, a Dretch demon and his zombie minions, including a zombie ogre, attack the band. After a vicious battle that resulted in a wounded Post, Cosbain scouted the main mining area. There was a giant room filled with miners and guards. A narrow staircase led down to the main area.

Sheal joined the gnomes for some dice gambling, only to find himself down 15 gold. In retaliation, he used his Ventriloquism spell to make Pon’s everlasting keg talk. In fright, Pon ripped the keg off his back and threw it as hard as he could. Sheal watched as Likert casually knelt down behind a rock wall and a tidal wave of ale washed over them. While the gnomes cheered and swam in the ale pond, Sheal located the keg, only to find it damaged and empty.

Snipper, the gnome ranger, rushed to join Cosbain to see if he could help. Snipper spotted a meal set out just beyond the bottom of the stairs. As he reached the landing, a trap door gave way, and he plummeted to a sea of spikes. Guards and miners alike rushed to investigate. As the guards began to climb the steps to search for others, Cosbain jumped down forty feet. He landed hard, but managed to use his skills to hide in a storage room and rest.

The guards were fooled by Holan’s mirage spell, and returned to their posts.
Eight hours later, the gnomes began wonder where Snipper was. Holan communicated with Cosbain and told the gnomes that Snipper was dead. Pon was in a state of grief. When Sheal tried to console him, Pon responded “I lost my cousin and my keg in the same day. Leave me be.”

In desperate need of a distraction to get themselves and the lich lord’s coffin down into the mine, Holan asked Cosbain to create a distraction. In true form, Cosbain lightened his load by about 8 flasks of oil. Much to his joy, the stone that was being mined contained petroleum, and began a series of explosions.

Eventually, the team met up and hid in the store room that Cosbain had found. While Holan and the gnomes stayed with the coffin, the rest of the team entered what appeared to be the miners’ quarters. There, they found a torture chamber along with a savage half-orc barbarian. In a desperate battle that almost spelled the end for Post, the band managed to defeat the torture boss Guresh.

Then, Cosbain explored a secret chamber protected by a tiny air elemental. She told Cosbain that he was there to stop the dark lady and could have the scrolls she was protecting. Cosbain made his usual incoherent mumbling and gleefully ran away with the scrolls.
